Liz & Lloyd’s Beautiful Spring Wedding at Hensol Castle

Liz and Lloyd’s journey to their wedding day began with a proposal that was certainly memorable!

Lloyd proposed on Dydd Santes Dwynwen, which is known as the Welsh Valentines Day, a particularly special date for the couple as they are “proud to be Welsh”. To make the day even more magical, there was a “planetary parade, where 6 planets in our solar system were visible and formed an arch along the night sky”.

The actual proposal, however, took place much closer to home, in their living room. Before popping the question, Lloyd headed to pick up flowers and a croissant for Liz. He wished her a happy Dydd Santes Dwynwen and told her he had another surprise for her before pulling out the ring box.

Liz’s reaction? “Oh my god… no no no no, what is that, oh god no no no!”

Thankfully, the panic was short-lived! She cried and agreed to marry him, “what a relief,” as Lloyd put it! The couple then headed out to celebrate before calling their friends and family and visiting both sets of parents, who had all been part of the proposal story in their own way.

Hensol Castle had actually been part of Liz and Lloyd’s story before they were even engaged. Lloyd’s mother had gifted them a Gin Tour of the Castle’s Distillery for Christmas, and they loved everything about the venue, although Lloyd suspects his mother may have been dropping some hints!

When they later returned for a wedding visit with Laura, who they described as “brilliant”, they were impressed by how comprehensive the wedding appointment was and how thoroughly their questions were answered. One thing that particularly stood out was the simplicity of the experience. As they explained, “there were no hidden charges or add ons.”

Liz and Lloyd appreciated that Hensol Castle offered one clear price that included everything, including the rooms. They told us it “just made things feel so much easier and less mercenary than I think other venues come across.”

Liz and Lloyd chose a timeless and elegant style for their wedding, with their colour palette and décor inspired by Spring and Easter, perfectly suited to their April wedding date.

One of the most special details of the day was Liz’s wedding dress — because it was her Mum’s.

The couple loved the idea of a traditional wedding, with Liz wanting a traditional-style dress to complement the theme. As Liz explained, “We really liked the idea of a traditional wedding, so I wanted a traditional style wedding dress to fit the theme.”

But wearing her Mum’s dress carried an even deeper meaning. Liz’s Grandmother had helped choose the dress for her Mum when she got married. Sadly, her grandmother passed away before Liz was born, making the dress an incredibly special connection to a family member she never had the chance to meet.

“Wearing that wedding dress made it feel like she still played a part during the day.”

It was a beautiful way to bring generations of their family together and make sure Liz’s grandmother was part of such an important moment.

For Liz and Lloyd, there wasn’t necessarily one single detail that stood out above everything else. Instead, it was the way the whole day came together.

“The sun was shining, the timings of the day went well, the staff on the day were amazing.”

They felt that a lot of this was down to Caleb, Hensol Castles’s Events Supervisor, who kept everything moving throughout the day, but they also felt incredibly lucky that even the things outside of their control seemed to work out perfectly.

“We genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

The celebrations continued into the evening, with guests filling the dance floor throughout the night. Their first dance was to ‘Grow Old With Me’ by Tom Odell, chosen because the theme of the song captured what marriage means to them, “basically aging and going through life with your partner.” And when it came to getting everyone up and dancing, one song in particular stood out: ‘Pompeii’ by Bastille, which was especially popular with Liz’s Uncles and Cousins!

When we asked Liz and Lloyd what advice they would give to couples currently planning their wedding, their answer was to “try not to stress out over small details or uncontrollable things. Sort out the important stuff and everything will fall into place.”

We couldn’t agree more!

The couple also had some lovely words for the Hensol Castle team, giving a special shout-out to Caleb for making sure everything ran smoothly on the day and Laura for answering all their questions throughout the planning process.

When asked whether they would recommend Hensol Castle to other couples, their answer was, “Definitely!”
